Cassandra Smith is a visual artist and poet. She makes things and writes things and often these seem like objects more than art. She is a poetry editor and book designer for Omnidawn Publishing. She has degrees. She has fire. She lives in Oakland.







Peter Burghardt and Stuart Pittman have been friends and frequent collaborators for the better part of a decade. Though geographic distance kept them from performing together during the past several years they continued to contribute words, ideas, and encouragement to each others music and art. Reunited again, Peter and Stu look forward to sharing the stage and making sounds wherever folks will have them.




Ben Mirov is the author of Hider Roser (Octopus Books, Summer 2012), Ghost Machine (Caketrain, 2010) and the chapbooks Vortexts (SUPERMACHINE, 2011) I is to Vorticism (New Michigan Press, 2010) and Collected Ghost (H_NGM_N, 2010). He is currently working on a trilogy of sci-fi novels about a man named Ben Mirov who is struggling to write his third book of poetry, while suffering from mild burnout and an addiction to the video game Starcraft 2.

Alisa Heinzman lives in Oakland. She co-edits the journal CALAVERAS with Sara Mumolo, and is the poetry editor for MARY Magazine. She will graduate from Saint Mary's College of California's MFA program this month and has several poems forthcoming in the SF Public Press.



Mostly interested in being honest and playful, Mark E. Deutsch is a musician whose genre could best be described as Personal Soup Pop. Instead of ignoring other, lesser genres, Deutsch tends to imitate and use various strains of popular music (e.g. broadway jazz ballads, reggae, blues rock) and thereby transform them via homemade low-tech techniques and his own casual delivery. As Paul Simon imitates South African pop on Graceland, so Mark imitates Paul Simon's imitation of South African pop on Graceland and keeps the old Wheel of Cultural Anthropophagy a'spinnin'. Deutsch recently finished an album called Soft Outfit, as well as a recording project for his baby nephew called Song for the Sabra. Currently he's working on an album/performance called Karaoke. Sandy Florian is the author of 5 books of prose poetry: Telescope, 32 Pedals & 47 Stops, The Tree of No, Prelude to Air From Water, and On Wonderland & Waste. She lives in San Francisco where she is an affiliate artist at the Headlands Center for the Arts and one of the "other" editors for Tarpaulin Sky Journal.

Jane Gregory's poems have appeared in Absent Magazine, Cannibal, The Hat, Notnostrums, Soft Targets, Typo, and elsewhere. Cannibal Books published a chapbook in 2007. She grew up in Tucson, Arizona and is currently a PhD student in English at UC Berkeley.

Graham Foust is the author of A Mouth in California and three other books of poems. He works at Saint Mary's College of California and lives in Oakland.

Music from thomas busch and co: "for this collection of songs we drew a lot of inspiration from the aztec people, i spent last winter in south america just backpacking from village to village, it was as much a spiritual journey as it was a physical one" says thomas of his as of yet untitled project. This is clearly evident in the rich soundscapes of mystic chants and tribal beats i witnessed by the band last month at the martinez annual world music festival, Busch says of the bands live performances "i like to become whatever instrument im taking on at the time, guitar, bass, bongos, anything, it becomes an appendage of the self as well as of the spirit"



MIDNIGHTS, poetry and prose poems by Jane Miller, is a Saturnalia Press artist/poet Collaboration Series, #4, 2008, with visual art contributed by Beverly Pepper and an introduction by C.D. Wright. Miller’s other recent work is the book-length sequence, A Palace of Pearls (Copper Canyon Press, 2005), which received the 2006 Audre Lorde Prize in Poetry. Among earlier collections are Wherever You Lay Your Head; Memory at These Speeds: New and Selected Poems; The Greater Leisures, a National Poetry Series Selection; and August Zero, winner of the Western States Book Award. She has also written Working Time: Essays on Poetry, Culture, and Travel, published in the University of Michigan's Poets on Poetry Series.

Craig Santos Perez, a native Chamorro from the Pacific Island of Guahån (Guam), has lived in California since 1995. He is the co-founder of Achiote Press and author of several chapbooks, including all with ocean views (Overhere Press, 2007) and preterrain (Corollary Press, 2008). His first book, from unincorporated territory, has just been published by Tinfish Press. His poetry, essays, reviews, and translations have appeared in New American Writing, Pleiades, The Denver Quarterly, Jacket, Sentence, and Rain Taxi, among others

hello handsome is the most recent project of singer/guitarist/songwriter sarah k. sarah has been playing since 2002, in bands such as The Black Diamonds (Olympia, WA) and The Parties (SF, Rainbow Quartz Records). She has also been active in the music community through her involvement in co-founding the Bay Area Girls Rock Camp, a nonprofit music camp for girls.


Dr. Opal Palmer Adisa, Jamaica-born, is a sought-after speaker who has lectured throughout the United States, South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Germany, England and Prague. An award-winning poet and prose writer Dr. Adisa has eleven titles to her credit, including the novel, It Begins With Tears (1997), that Rick Ayers proclaimed as one of the most motivational works for young adults. She has been a resident artist in internationally acclaimed residencies such as Binational Fulbright Institute ( Egypt), Sacatar Institute (Brazil) and Headlines Center for the Arts (California, USA). Dr. Adisa is a full professor of creative writing and literature at California College of the Arts. She has taught at several universities including, Stanford University and University of California, Berkley. Recognition of her work has come in the form of many awards and honors; among them a nomination as Poet Laureate for the State of California in 2002.



Also at the studio this first friday is an art walk and reception. Studio One artists will be around to talk about their displayed art and cool people will be there to look at it and buy it. The reception starts at 530pm. Join us!
